I'll get to that 😡 table in a bit, but first; a non sequitur and how I spent a snowy Sunday...
It's pi day, yay! The Middlest can recite 155 digits of pi!
A week ago it was pushing 70 and today there is snow on the ground. Oh March, you fickle fickle month.
As we were getting the place ready to host guests for snow season, we focused much of our attention on the inside of the house...where it's warm and cozy. Admittedly we did not put too much effort into our outdoor pavilion space. We gathered a hodge-podge of inherited furniture and set it out so that there was something to sit on for those that might want to brave the cold and enjoy the stone fireplace, but the pavilion space was an obvious afterthought...which none of our guests thus far have called us out on. They have been way too kind (thank you)!
We had a group of guests staying with us one beautiful (warm) weekend in February and they spent the entire weekend outside grilling and hanging out. It caught us off guard to be honest. We weren't prepared for the pavilion to be a space people would want to spend not-insignificant amounts of time in yet. I mean...February!! We suddenly saw our pavilion space with new eyes 👀. World Market to the rescue! We ordered their outdoor Alicante II furniture. (We'd like to extend a big thank you to our wonderful neighbor who dragged the giant boxes into the garage for us!)
And World Market delivered two weeks early! So my girlfriend Susan and I road-tripped it on up to PA one snowy Sunday in March. You know, because March. (I blame Punxsutawney Phil.) Everyone should be so lucky to have a friend like Susan who will hop in your minivan on short notice for a six hour round trip road trip to build furniture with teeny tiny little Allen wrenches in the snow with you. (Ok, we were in the garage, but it was as cold as snow, thanks Phil.❄️)
Now this is an outside space I am looking forward to inviting the neighbors over to for a happy hour...when we're back up in April...when everything is green...and warm.
So remember the dining table? The dining table we waited on for months from Pottery Barn, only to have it split within a month of receiving it? The one they said they'd replace in April? Well April wasn't going to work for them. 🤔 So we're done with Pottery Barn and their tables. (Still happy with their bed we purchased...upstairs master.)
We have an even better replacement dining table coming from Restoration Hardware. It looks sturdy. And weathered. If it gets a ding and a knick here and there...no big deal. This table looks to be indestructible. And it will be delivered when we are up in April. I'll take pictures. I have high hopes!
